We now return to your regularly scheduled programming

Well, it’s certainly been a while, hasn’t it? The astute reader may notice that I haven’t posted since October 2018. That’s… a while. I’m not going to bore you with details other than to say I was suffering a bit of burnout at the end of 2018, and 2019 was full of multiple servings of personal challenges.

Over the last 12 months I’ve found that I haven’t had much time or capacity for game design, and so when I’m not working on projects, I don’t really have anything to write about. But it’s a double-edged sword. When I’m not writing, I’m not feeling the push to keep designing and working on things. It was a bit of a horrible feedback loop.

Now, however, I’m feeling a little bit of enthusiasm returning. So back to the gaming mines we go, toiling away in darkness, breathing in the soot-black dust of lead pencils, hoping to turn up a gem or two.

I’m not going to do anything as silly as committing to a regular post schedule. That’s fraught with danger. Instead, I’m only going to write when I have something to write. My initial weekly posting plan was enough to demonstrate to myself that I had stuff and things to write about, but the pressure to do it on a schedule wasn’t sustainable for the rest of what I have going on in life as a functioning adult with the corresponding responsibilities.

So here we go, with a bit of a renewed focus, a refreshed (although incredibly basic) page layout, and some more game ideas. Oh, and it’s time to start thinking about the PAX Collaboratory again for 2020. Hmm…
